Episode 15 wasn't just about the time travel connection. It was about confirming Iris' feelings for Barry, that she has been in denial. In that sense, there was some story progression...which they completely sabotaged with episode 16. But the point was to show that Iris is in love with Barry and will eventually confess her feelings to him.
