It's just part of the process of the characters figuring themselves out. They lash out sometimes, with Peyton I always saw it as a sign of her really caring about something. She didn't cause drama for dramas sake, she was above that. But if Peyton got worked up about something enough to take a stand? Right or wrong. You damn well knew it was something that was important to her.
