In a nutshell. But it's also about the futility of war.
Spoiler:
Prim was the reason Katniss ended up in the hunger games at all, which would make her the catalyst for the whole damn revolution. Katniss only wanted to save her sister. For her sister to be dead by the end of it all, and for the rebellion to be somewhat culpable, is a very harsh but important lesson about the realities of violent conflict.
It's not clean, and it's not fair, but war never is. Violence never is. Blunt force solutions lead to blunt force trauma every time.
Ultimately it is what makes the Hunger Games so very special, and what will give these films longevity long after their initial release...
