Rumple really just brings out the worst in himself as far as i can see, i mean the man would do anything to get power and destroy whoever which he has done for a long time? so really thats the point - Rumple does it himself

He always fights for himself and has done for such a long time, he had no one before and even now he would die then anyone hurt Emma, and his phone call to say you dont have to forgive me but just save yourself
