I can see 4X02 ending with Zoe telling Wade. And then like you said, Wade spends 4X03 coming to terms with it and then they talk about it at the end of 4X03.
Yeah, maybe he's hanging out with them because she cancelled on him. Maybe she's scared of how he's going to react so she cancels their date but then realizes she's can't hide it or avoid it, so she tells him.
