Neither did I, in fact I encourage Sherlock to do it anyway
They're family, we root for them to have a relationship, but it seems quite difficult. They're very alike, the big difference is that Sherlock is more transparent, we almost can see it coming, while Mycroft plays it all very carefully. But I'm intrigued about the father, the way they talk about him, he must be something. I hope we get to know him next season.
