Yeah, they introduce new characters for the fourth and fifth seasons. British shows do tend to do that a lot
I prefer the American system of signing your cast for six year contracts, but for some reason here they only sign actors for one season at a time, so often casts will change completely for a show. The guy playing the vampire wanted to leave to do films from what I remember
