Yes, it is certainly different how Alfred is being helped when Gwen was not. Do you think it was meant to show changing times or some degree of sexism?

Baxter seems nice, but is that only because Thomas wants her to be? Or is it that she really is nice, but Thomas has something on her...which they know, but we do not...yet. She also mentioned saying something to Cora about Sybil as a way to ingratiate herself with Cora. Seems strange that Thomas would prompt her to use Sybil's name in that way, but we are talking about Thomas here, so ?????
