Yeah, it seems as if Sam isn't necessarily cold or evil as he is just pissed off at everything in general. I do think that having been Owen for so long will eventually affect his behavior patterns in some way. You could see that he really wasn't feeling it when Amanda had Nikita in her chair, just like Owen was.
