I really love that Chris truly grew up and behaved like a real man. Taking his passionate nature and the fact that he got used to getting what he wanted, it was, I would say, even more admirable that he dealt with Haley's feelings and choices, respected them, didn't try to force her into changing them and was just there for her through everything because even if she doesn't want him the way he wants her, he still deeply cares about her and wants her to be happy. That, for me, is the true development. I never have any sympathy for male characters who keep whining about their unrequited love, pining for a girl who clearly said no and don't care about her feelings as long as they get what they want. Chris didn't end up being like that and I greatly respect him.
