I was just reading some posts in the Spoilers thread and someone said that they had seen in either a photo or the preview for the next episode Elijah was holding the sage or whatever that Esther was holding at the ball to keep anyone from overhearing their conversation. That's got me thinking that if that is the case then maybe Elijah isn't gonna go and betray Elena and he's actually going to keep Elena telling him the truth a secret.
