"Something" happens to break his heart later on, maybe a misunderstanding and so DE hits the breaks/a low point again but I was expecting it to happen. It wasn't going to be happy times till the finale and it is like "usual" to get some angst after a big positive improvement, and then we are "hit" with another one (IMO in the finale with Elena initiated kiss!).
The thing is, we know he loves her and we know she may be in denial, she may not know what to do about it, but she loves him. The rest of the "season" will be them realizing they can't ignore their feelings even if they both try and just saying that aloud to one another in the finale.  |
This is what I think!
There's no way they are having Elena start to realize her feelings for Damon just to completely shut DE down for the rest of the season. This doesn't mean that I'll be the most happy shipper when whatever happens, happens, but I've always expected major angst for DE in the second half. In the first third of the season, I assumed that it would come in the form of an SE reunion, but now it seems obvious to me that reunion is not happening, and I think this angst will be entirely between DE, with Stefan not being a true part of it. I won't lie; I'm a little nervous as to what happens at the end of 3.14. I know people are speculating a hook-up with Rebekah, but I think there might be more to it than that. I have this feeling that something is gong to happen that we do not expect. As long as it doesn't separate DE or put them back to where they started at the beginning of season 2, I can handle it. I think.
I just so agree that the rest of this season HAS to be about Elena coming to terms with her feelings for Damon. The way they've written things, there is no way that can't be so. That doesn't mean that she will BE with him, but I think she has to admit her feelings fully.
I hope that if something does break Damon's heart, it's a misunderstanding or something that is said in the heat of the moment. I am having difficulty trying to understand what could be so bad that Damon has "dashed hopes" (it definitely sounds to me like it's referring to Elena and feeling that he's lost his chance) after everything the two of them have been through, so I feel like it has to be really bad.
I just hope it isn't too devastating and that we won't have to be tortured for episode after episode. I really trust the writers with DE this season, but there's a part of me that will never fully trust them because of season 2. So I'm optimistic overall, but there's a part of me that will always be a little nervous.
