I actually think it's more Batman-like than Phantom-like.
I had no idea if The Prince's Tale was even going to work in a movie so I'm impressed by how they managed to do it. I think taking Snape's memories and sort of incorporating them with some of Harry's was a really effective way to show Snape's story.
