I think that would be way too easy. Elena's goodness and her humanity are such key parts to the show and to her character that her turning and losing that being anything less than tragic would cheapen the whole thing for me.
I mean, I love Elena and I completely understand wanting her to be happy with something to permanent and irreversible but I don't think a positive reaction would make sense for this story, or for her character.
