We have the same problem here with a LOT of the Native languages. I'm not sure anything can be done about it, really, because the problem seems to be tied with the fact that Aboriginal languages are tied with a certain, ancestral way of life that seems harder to maintain in modern, economic times...
It is sad, though, especially when you think of all the historical wealth attached to language and culture.
