Mon, Feb 07, 2005, 02:02 PM PT
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - For Matthew McConaughey's next gig, he only has one scripted line.
The 35-year-old actor will command, "Drivers, start your engines" as the official Grand Marshal for the 47th annual Daytona 500.

"I'm honored and excited to be the Grand Marshal of this year's race. There is nothing more American than NASCAR and the Daytona 500," says McConaughey.

The star will also drive the pace car to lead a field of 43 cars in the pace laps. "That '70s Show" star Ashton Kutcher will act as the honorary starter.

Previous Grand Marshals include Ben Affleck, John Travolta Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and NFL Hall of Fame quarterbacks Terry Bradshaw and Jim Kelly.

The Daytona 500, a 500-mile race consisting of 200 laps around a 2.5 mile track, will air live on FOX on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. ET.

McConaughey's films include "Dazed and Confused," "A Time to Kill," "Contact," "EdTV," "The Wedding Planner" and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." He next stars opposite Penelope Cruz in the upcoming action film "Sahara," which will be released in April.
