It didn't help her 'stay at home' like Meredith thought it would, it just added to a list of experiences that would stick with Claire for a long time. It's kind of alluding to helping her turn into someone like her Future!Self.
I mean, I know Meredith probably thought she was helping, and I agree with what you were saying about her motivations, but it didn't change Claire's mind. I think it did more harm than good IMO.
