No vampire can hide their relationships with someone from them and that way they can be forced to join the guard or whatever because I'm sure any vampire is willing to do anything just to make sure their mate doesn't get hurt. I can only guess here but I'm sure that Marcus' power is very helpful for the Volturi.
also, in a general sense at a first meeting it might be useful to determine whether somebody was being honest. Like if they were trying to persuade you about something, and you didn't realize they had a vested interest in the outcome due to their relationship with somebody. Did that make sense?

For established powers, I think I'd like Alice's ability to see the future.

If I was making up my own, I agree with Jessie that flying would be cool. Oh, I'd want to be strong enough to bring somebody with me.
