Now, I have been told that Fool was sort of a slap at the Britney Spears' and Paris Hilton types...superficial, life-wasting walking mannequins which seems to be supported by Amy's clever "You've got everybody fooled" line change to "you're everbody's fool" at the end. Her video would have you thinking it was some kind of introspective song but I think she was just portraying the shallow media types.
I am not familiar with Clarkson.
