There were so many mushrooms I asked the waiter when the chicken was coming out. And then he told me to push the mushrooms out of the way, and behold...two thin slices of chicken.

My study plan seems to work.
The author subplot was pointless. They could've worked the movie in an entirely different (and more interesting) angle. I just didn't like the outcome and the flow of the movie.
I just made this very long post about my discontent feelings towards 'October Road'. I hope the mega-fans don't eat me up.
