The whole point of this film is to show how Bond became the man he is and why he is just basically a "walking appetite with legs" as opposed to the more emotional and introspective person he was before he met Vesper.

Also, the fact Vesper betrayed him IS the reason he views women as "objects" and doesn't let anyone get close to him from this point on. It is good to see there is a real human reason for this and not just because he is a chauvinistic pig like the character has been portrayed for the last 40+ years.

This film is the closest to the books Ian Flemming wrote (this is in fact the first book in the series) and is great to see it addresses a lot of the things the other films didn't like the fact Bond doesn't even feel British and often alienated by the country he defends. Also, the scene after he kills the two assassins in the hotel and is washing the blood off of himself and he looks directly in the mirror is right out of the book. If they keep making the new films with actual references to the books I think these will be the most accurate portrayals of the character in 40 years.
