Yes but it never meant they wouldn't be together never ever again - we all know how miserable they were when separated and that they still loved each other. It was only a matter of time before they would give their relationship another try.
BTW have you noticed how Justin never answered that he loved Ethan but he said "he loves me"? It's rather obvious he was desperate to be loved in this kind of way without actually loving Ethan back. He cared for him, I'm sure but he never loved him, not like he loves Brian.
