Well, the common variety around here blooms in August, with many dead purple (poor description, but you'll know it when you see it) flowers. At least one variety is known as "bone-set tea", and is supposedly good for helping broken bones heal.
I would check with an herbalist or botanist to be sure that your variety is safe to ingest, just to be on the safe side.
It isn't tasty, but it didn't kill me.
