McGee has grown certainly. When you think of how he came on, and yeah, Gibbs, Tony and Ziva always got the big action centric episodes. While there were a few dealing with his family. Bishop had one dealing with his family. And then the Qassim storyline. McGee except for the aftermath of him and Gibbs being held hostage, he has not had it. Nick has a few, but we do not know as much although we met his father last season. Most days I forget he has a sister and niece that we met on day 1 on the show, but not since.
But McGee, he's grown but yeah he would not the leader I would be thinking of. So we shall see how they flesh out Jessica. Nick is the one to go rogue like Gibbs. I would not think of him growing into a leader mentality.
So, it will be interesting to see how the show goes on from here.
