Well, he is trying to get revenge for his family and plus something happen to both the leads when they were kids (she was blind) but something happed and now she can see and he can't plus he has a demon inside of him(she triggers it because she has the demons eyes). But you can tell they love each other he doesn't want her to stop him on his path.(So he is fighting it).
