Yes red has now lost Dom, Kaplan, and even, I suppose Katarina.

I can definitly see where people are coming from when they say that. I can see why Red would want Liz to see that he killed her mother. I mean, she gave up on Red long ago. She knows how he is and she knows that if he got the change he would kill Katarina. He had nothing left to loose. He lost all the people you listed in your post. And he lost Liz so why not let her see that he is killing her mother. So yeah maybe he did do it on purpose and I would understand.
