I always thought Angel would never have fired Doyle, but then he fires them all to protect them from the dark place he's going to so ... maybe he would have? If he didn't fire Doyle then that would mean he cared less about protecting him than the others - and the reason I think he wouldn't fire him is because he cared about him more so ... I go round in circles on that one. I got round it in my rewrite by having Doyle conveniently elsewhere at the time, so it was never really clear if he was fired or not, I think the writers might have got round it that way too. Ambiguity solves a lot of problems, and then it keeps Doyle as that bridge between Cordy and Angel that he always was - just spanning a wider gap.
