I'll never understand how heartless his mom seemed, that comment from her was just brutal. I do remember there was a deleted bit from the movie where they show her tearing up when Peeta was chosen though so I guess that would have humanized her a bit. One thing about a book from Peeta's POV is knowing more about his family.
