From what I know those games seem like they would be great picks if you're looking for something fun but not too challenging. Animal Crossing is basically just building your town and making friends. I had the very first version years and years ago. Paper Mario seems a bit more challenging but not overly so and really walks you through it at first.
I don't think I've ever even watched some of The Last of Us.
