It is just a precaution as any virus can affect the foetus in the early stages of pregnancy. I'm sure clinics and hospitals will make arrangements so they can have their check ups safely. Funnily enough when I was pregnant many moons ago I was told not to worry about chicken pox as my boss at work suspected she may have it as her husband did. Since then advice has changed and the medics have decided that any virus is a risk in the first trimester.
