So I watched Onward just now on Disney+ and I really enjoyed it. Very light hearted and whimsical with only a couple of somewhat sad parts here and there which is very different from Pixar's usual standards of tearjerkers. I don't think it's as good as say Coco or Inside Out but it does have a lot more of an adventure feel than say Brave. I was expecting a bit more from the third act though, it just felt a bit predictable and slightly underwhelming. However, I liked how Ian decided to let Barley get his chance to say goodbye to their dad whilst he fought off the monster thing despite having wanted to meet his dad throughout the whole movie. And I also liked how he realised that although he never had his dad around him he had his big brother looking out for him.
The story was fun, not as engaging as some previous Pixar stories but enjoyable nonetheless. The same can be said for the characters. They were all very likeable, just nothing outstanding. All in all, a good movie and I'm glad I watched it. Will definitely watch it again someday. __________________
