i think that we have to have a little faith a bit of patience. the showrunners have been direct that they are heavily influenced by Wharton and Capote. Age of Innocence, House of Mirth, the real Breakfast at Tiffany's. Fanon keeps throwing in Austen references, but the officially they use the bleaker authors. Maybe they are changing things, but the tropes are there. We're back to the Age of Innocence this season. Countess Oleneski (blair), wife of the Count (chuck), the cousin of May (serena) that Mr. Archer (dan) is engaged to? this time it seems a visiting cousin is coming - maybe she is another version of the countess (in season 2 it was Rachel Carr), maybe not. all these countess cousins that dan rescues that are actually stand-ins for blair. The Prince - also a Mr. Jose Jaegar reference (Breakfast at Tiffany's). In case people forgot, Holly Golightly was a call girl. and Paul was a man**** (in the movie - do you see what they are doing to Dan now? he's not the moral center character anymore). Paul and Holly never got it on, but they loved each other. The movie brought them together, but in the novella she left and was never heard from again. Maybe this time Holly is Serena. who knows? point is, the references have been there this whole time. If Age of Innocence isn't your kind of book, then Gossip Girl isn't your kind of show. __________________

wow....you know what seeing all these parallels...I really do think they are going to be part of a bigger story..there is just way to much foreshadowing, refrences and I don't know...i just don't think chuck and her will be endgame, they really shouldn't be imo....Blair has said he makes her weak and around Dan she's not and he always knows what to say to her and how to make her feel better....Dan really is the best match for her and hopefully she will see that and maybe thats what the writers are doing....maybe? __________________
