Biography:

Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was born Feb. 21, 1946 in Hammersmith, London, England, UK. He originally wanted to be a graphic artist. At 26 he won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where he spent 3 years.
He started out in the theatrical version of Les Liaisons Dangereuses. His first major film was Die Hard where he was cast as Hans Gruber. Alan's talent and charisma make him a facinating presence to watch! Have a look at some of these websites dedicated to him and his work!

Have you kept up with their films?
Rickman: I look forward to seeing Daniel's new film about Ginsberg and I didn't see Emma's film, what was it called... "The Bling...?" I haven't seen that, but no I stay in touch with them. Rupert is rehearsing a play at the moment so he's going on stage for the first time. Daniel is ever adventurous and Emma's gone back to finishing her degree at Brown. So they're a great threesome.

Would you like to do more "big" films like Harry Potter or do you prefer the smaller ones?
Rickman: I don't mind what size they are. Is there some fun to be had, or entertainment to be given. or a good story to tell? I'm not really aware of the budget. It was a bit like that when we shot "Galaxy Quest." We were playing a bunch of little actors surrounded by all of this mayhem. And so, in a way, it's a sort of metaphor for the whole thing.

I think Snape's really causing the biggest discussions. Should you love or hate him? Is he good or not? I'm not surprised the movies gave his character an extra-boost of popularity. He was one of the first characters that caught my attention, too.

He's an anti-hero so to speak. Yes he protected Harry at all cost but it was fueled by his love for Lily after all this time.

Absolutely. He's really an interesting character because there are always new twists and turns. I like that.

DH was really the book that did a 360 on him after what happened in HBP with Harry and him killing Dumbledore. I was crying reading that conversation between him & Dumbledore about protecting Harry at all cost. :(

Yes! I felt sorry for Snape quite a few times. What he did with the students was wrong, although it doesn't surprise me with how bitter he was. But the whole protecting Harry thing, and how Dumbledore revealed Harry was supposed to be killed all the time...I also have to say, the movies brought the whole flashback across amazingly well.

I agree, I thought the Prince's Tale was well executed in the movie. HBP though with Snape being the Half-Blood Prince was anticlimactic in the movie.

Snape is seriously one of the best characters of all time.

I think he's the anti-hero so to speak. I loved how his story ended and all the 'sacrifices' he had to go through for love. :sigh:
