Hartnett says that a romance between their characters was always in the cards, but, he adds, “I also think that the chemistry sort of made itself evident early on to people.”

“That’s the great thing about working on TV, which I’d never really anticipated,” Hartnett says. “It’s kind of organic in that way. If something is working, then you can take advantage of it. If something’s not working, you can shy away from it.”

Love that interview, their chemistry really works can't wait to have scenes with them again, but I'm afraid they'll always be star crossed lovers

Shipping anyone on this show equals suffering. Sigh.
But until they're both alive, we have hope (I don't rule out the possibility that Ethan will die protecting her, at some point).

Even if they'll spend several episodes separated, I'm looking forward to some hints or direct references to their bond, like Vanessa talking about the void caused by Ethan's disappearance from her life in her letter to Malcolm.

I feel as though this a show which isn't going to rush in putting their main characters into a relationship but there is always hope for at least little pieces

What appealed to you about seeing those two characters together?
They’re fascinating characters for me, and they’re both in a very dark and desolate place and have been for a long time, and the idea of two characters in need coming together and trying to find some grace or some lightness in the various curses that surround them was obviously very interesting. Plus Eva and Josh are just very good together. They play very well together; they spark very well together.
