welp. now i want to join you.
I had something all ready to post before this thread opened up. Still gonna post it anyways to continue the conversation. While I would be a happy camper keeping my shipper glasses permanently on I know that our ship isn't canon yet (will be placing bets though once Katrina's gone) and therefore we will have to endure Ichatrina and all that it entails. As much as I don't like it, and I don't. I'll deal with it, if it means that this is to wrap up Ichabod's past life before he can truly move on. Not just for character growth, because he needs it desperately, but it will make him a better witness. And of course seeing his future with Abbie. They are after all bonded for these 7 years and it's only a road that can be traveled together. Like I wondered when he was throwing what sounded like wedding vows to Abbie whenever she felt a little bit of doubt about what was going on, where was Katrina in this future he was talking about. Where was she in this conversation? Yes her character was written pretty bad, especially when you compare it to everyone else on the show. Almost everything she's said has been contradicted in one way or another, so I can't believe it was done because they just didn't like writing for her. I hope it was by design, like making her evil and part of Moloch's army or something. Because I'm just......eh. I've sat thorough and re-watched just her scenes and there's real issues with much of her back story. So she's still headcanon as Evil!Katrina until canon finally confirms what side she's really on.

*cries* I need my shipper glasses some days, but yeah. Ichabbie is not canon, I'm willing to admit that. And frankly I feel like we can talk about trends and what usually is done in situations like these and speculate but they could always pull the rug out from under the trope and surprise us all. That is always a possibility, Katrina around or not. I mean I feel confident most days that things are gonna go our way simply because the potential for Ichabbie is so much fun. Key word here being potential. There is no potential for Ichatrina. We started the series with that relationship already pretty much having run its course. The audience just isn't allowed to become as invested in that relationship. we don't get to see them growing to trust each other, or being partners, or even falling in love. It just was and we were suppose to accept it and where is the fun in that? Where is the suspense?
Even if Ichabbie never happens it is essential imho at least that Ichabod become a better witness. Like it feels like Abbie is already ready to sacrifice near everything for the cause and I get why Ichabod isn't like that just yet. The drama is just too good to pass up, but he needs to get there eventually. And I think from day one that meant letting go of the past. Maybe not entirely but enough that he can function in this new world anyways. Katrina has so far represented everything he has lost and is fighting to reclaim. Like I get it, and it is sad, but I don't see this as something he *should* be doing. Katrina is going to have serve a drastically different purpose if she is going to exist in the modern world and still manage to not distract Ichabod from his higher calling. I'm drunk but tonight I really do feel like the writers' just didn't care about Katrina or didn't think the audience was paying attention, either way... what a mess right? Some of those mistakes can be fixed but a lot just can't be and probably won't. Like we will more than likely learn about the conditions of Katrina's arranged marriage but we will probably have to accept that line about Katrina not having enough time to tell Ichabod about Jeremy, or Abe, or the soul swap despite what we saw in John Doe. And that is a shame, cause I don't think anyone will ever be content with that. Hoping I'm wrong and the show will address it but I just don't know.

I don’t wish to be a Debbie Downer, but I don’t think Katrina’s going anywhere. Which is sad because I tried to rewatch some eps with a newly hooked-on-the-show friend and had to force myself not to skip Katrina scenes for the friend's benefit. This after swearing I was going to try harder to watch her. And, Lord, I tried. Looks like I'll be fastforwarding through her again in S2. But while cringing through her cryptic warnings, lies by omission, etc, I realized 50% of my annoyance with the character comes from Ichabod’s constant references to her.
“Katrina.” “We must save Katrina.” “Now more than ever…Katrina.” “…Katrina’s favorite book.” “…Katrina.” “Katrina…" Ooh wee, dude. Shaddup. But I digress... TPTB will not let go of Katrina. They’re going to dig in their heels because they’re desperate for a tru wuv story. And that’s fine as long as my Platonic Boos don’t suffer for her promised wonderfulness. And now I’ll try not to grouse about She Who Shall Not Be Named anymore because I don’t want talk of her to overtake the Witnesses thread. __________________
