It was difficult to choose the Marilyn gifset to add but Public Relations has a terrific choreography and she really looks like Marilyn, so I posted that one

In the other thread we were speaking about Kat's career...I had a post, but we had to open this new thread, so I'll post it now


She definitely needs a confidence booster, but I often have the impression that she's still not sure about what she wants to do really. Even in her music style, she has a lot of ideas, she has TONS of producers and writers with her, she does a lot of different things at the same time - tv, a record, tv appearences, movies - but...you know? When you want to do too much different things at the same time, in the end everything ends up being so-so.

I have the impression that she still has to find what she really wants to do, for now I feel she just followed what was more "needed" to have some publicity and to be shown here and there, like "I exist! I'm here! I sing!".

Yeah, I agree with you I think she's still finding herself but doing music is what got her into this business so once she continues with that she'll be where she should be which is singing and performing cause that's what she's good at.

She wants to do music, but since she's not a huge singer (she hasn't got a big success, after all) she does a lot of other stuff...she jumps here and there just to make people remember her.

She said she gets bored easily, I wonder if this is referred also to singing, sometimes.

In general, I'm still at her dancing skills, she could be an awesome dancer in theatre ensembles, really!

Just judging from interviews, I think Katharine wants to be an actress, preferably in movies. Singing/performing seems to be her fall-back because that's where she can find the most work right now. She got type-cast as a singer because of AI.

I agree that her dancing is the biggest (pleasant) surprise I take away from Smash. She could pretty easily fit into Sutton Foster-type musical/comedy roles, but I get the impression she doesn't much care for stage work.

I think she's a great dancer but she's not that good as an actor. However, if she wants to do movies or anything else that has to do with acting she can do that it's up to her what she really loves doing. This is just my opinion but maybe she should try more Broadway.

She could take acting classes, in that case...the thing that is fun, in some way, is that when she sings in Smash, playing a character - like Marilyn or Amanda or even just Karen singing her emotions - she CAN act. Look at Public Relations, for example. So I guess her problem is more with simple lines, because when she sings she PLAYS a character, she can to that.

If she could improve her singing - more in a musical theatre style - she could really try Broadway (or off Broadway, also). The dancing skill is already there, the singing too (but it should be focused more on musical theatre style, so it would be just an improvement). There's only the acting left, but she can learn - a lot of people do it.

I think she really wants to sing, doing her own albums and singing as herself (not as a musical character), but the acting is always a thing that "arouse" singers and she's not different in that. Movies had that "glitter" and attractive...

In musical theatre, with the right training, she could blend all those things. But I wonder if the critics she got from Smash couldn't ruin her, in a situation like this. I remember all those "she can't do Broadway, she's a pop singer", I wonder wheter this kind of comments could hunt her even if she seriously decided to take this way. Like "oh, she tries, but she can't do it" - remember that we are talking about Katharine, not Karen who was a well trained musical theater character.

It all depends on what she really dreams of doing. She's sings, so far she's known for singing but not dancing or acting. I want to see her do some more acting so she can increase that ability that I know she has. She's good at doing what she does. Singing. She should try a Broadway show just to see how she works live everyday.

Smash showed also that she can dance very well. She's talented! I wonder when and where she learned it.

Yeah, with some training in acting and also a specific training in musical theatre singing would make her perfect and she could really have a chance in Broadway. And she could also keep writing her own music (a lot of theatre people do it).

Somebody who's easily bored, as Kat admits to being, really is not a very good fit for the Theater. She might do for a short engagement, but I imagine she'd be wanting to move on rather quickly. That's the main reason movies seem to be more in her wheelhouse, with live performance as a sideline.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Live theatre needs so much passion and dedication...and with Kat I don't know, I'm not even sure is so passionate about her music career

In general I noticed that a lot of singers at some point wants to make movies. Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncè, Jennifer Hudson, just to name few.
