The Good Doctor (ABC) #2 - "Very few things that are worthwhile in life come without a cost."
A young surgeon with autism and Savant syndrome is recruited into the pediatric surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. The question will arise: can a person who doesn't have the ability to relate to people actually save their lives? Based on a South Korean drama, Doctor stars Bates Motel alum Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon and autistic savant who joins the staff of a prestigious hospital. But the hospital’s board members worry that Shaun’s lack of communication skills could make him a liability in the operating room. Previous Threads: 01 |

The new episode was okay, not my favorite. Didnt care much for the football player storyline but the Shaun SL with his father was good. It was sad that his father went out being awful to him yet again, even after Shaun forgave him. How upsetting.
And Lea was being a great friend in the episode imo. I like that she went with Shaun even though she didnt want to and supported what he wanted to do, but I do see where Glassmen was coming from. Shaun's parents seem awful though, what sort of parents just never talk to their own kid? Horrible. Interesting that Shaun has more feelings for Lea than Carly, but I am not upset about that, I want them to break up. Last edited by Alexa; 04-06-2023 at 01:41 AM |

I felt bad for Shaun but in a way, I did feel Glassman was right in encouraging him to speak to his father, because later on, years later, he might have regretted not saying his peace, even if it was in anger.
Thanks for the new thread Alexa! |

No no no no no no!
Just NO! I will not accept Carly and Shaun together. She is bossy, controlling, manipulative and she doesn't care about Shaun's needs or what he wants. Threatening to break up if Shaun doesn't move out from Lea's apartment? That's just wrong. Telling Shaun she needs space because Lea held him then wants to be with him, no matter what happened between him and Lea? I think Shaun is continuing to date Carly because he thinks he should and doesn't want to continue hurting Carly's feelings. I don't understand what he sees in her. Carly doesn't care about him or what he wants or what makes him comfortable. When you date someone, you accept them the way they are or just move on. She doesn't care about his dad. She's like, "oh sorry about your dad but why didn't you call me and why did you ask Lea and not me to go with you, you didn't call me and you hurt my feelings wah wah wah wah!" Shaun had a difficult relationship with his dad and was upset when he died, maybe he didn't call because he was busy trying to rekindle the relationship, grieve and doesn't need to call his needy girlfriend every second? The fact that he asked Lea to come with him and not Carly should've told Carly something about the relationship but she doesn't move on and she just cries about it. ABC, get rid of Carly please. Let him be with Lea. It's obvious he would rather be with Lea and putting two fingers on his neck to check for his pulse when around Lea doesn't mean anything lol. Shaun needs to stop consulting Dr. Andrews for bad romance advice. |

I enjoy Carly. I'm so tired of Lea, I find her blasé attitude annoying.
I feel like they're setting up a Dr. Brown and Dr. Melendez romance for some reason... |

Anyway, another matter.... I don't know how it's gonna go with Claire and Melendez. It'd be a little weird, I think. He's a lot older than she is! |

I dont like Lea OR Carly but I find Lea a lot more tolerable than Carly lately tbh. She's annoyed me ever since she got upset for Shaun not being ready to be intimate. Like, dont date someone like him if you cant handle it. She's acting like sex is all there is to a relationship and thats not the truth.

Eta: i looked up the ages and the claire actress is 34, the melendez actor is 44, so theres a 10 year gap there. sort of big but not that big of a deal when you are in your 30's imo. And the actress that plays dr Lim or whatever her name is is 48. Shockingly the actress that plays Morgan is almost 40! Last edited by Alexa; 01-15-2020 at 12:47 AM |

^^ I don’t get the Brown/Melendez hints either but like you said she had a crush previously.
Although the actors are the ages you mentioned, aren’t the characters supposed to be late 20’s while being 3rd year med students completing their residencies? The way Carly has handled things with Shaun isn’t the best but at the same time it feels like she’s trying to be honest. I feel any romantic relationship for Shaun is going to be weird because he’s not normal in picking up social cues. Also, any female he dates is not going to understand why he won’t or can’t do something, even though Carly is being portrayed as trying she’s also pushing too hard. yeah i have no idea how old they are supposed to be, but i would guess early 30's.
i cant really say because i advent seen the latest episode but every episode seems to get worse for Carly. I dont know if the writers dont realize how shes coming off or if they are purposely writing it that way. Last edited by Alexa; 01-15-2020 at 01:48 AM |

Well even though I like Carly, that doesn’t mean I like all the things she’s said or done, but I think that’s why I like her, real people make mistakes and have flaws and she’s an example of that. As for why they are portraying her that way, maybe because they will end up splitting but they want more drama.
Even though Carly is rough around the edges I do think the main positive role she’s had for Shaun is that he’s pushing himself more as well. Yes she can be pushy in her own way but we’ve all seen when Shaun doesn’t want to do something, he won’t. |
