The finale will be longer than a regular episode. I hope it will also be better than the episodes thus far. I won't be able to check this site again until after the show, which I hope to watch early, but am not certain I'll be able to do so. I hope to watch The Paradise on Sunday. It's at 8, on BBC1. I thought the last few episodes were really good. Hope the finale continues that trend. And y'know Christmas isn't that far away.

I know. On one hand, I'm looking forward to the CS. On the other, I'm SO not anywhere near ready for Christmas and have no clue what to get my son. Not only that, but he's going to Florida with my in-laws the day after Christmas and I'm gonna miss him . He'll have a blast (always does).

Thanks for spoiler tagging.
Yeah, I can't believe we're down to the very last now until Christmas. The waiting will suck again. I usually watch the CS late because of the holidays. Needless to say last year's CS was not good AT ALL. I hope that changes this year. Aww, Donna. I'm sure you'll know what to give your son soon. We still have time. __________________

I'm sure we'll find ways to analyze every detail of the series over and over again to try and predict how series 5 will turn out. And most likely 90% of our theories will be completely incorrect.

Well said
On the other hand- I can only speak for myself of course but for me shows such as DA is such a great escape from RL that I don't want to know ahead of time what's going to happen next. I don't mind watching the sort trailer at the end of each ep but not more than that I like to be surprised, get emotional and all that while i watch the ep and obviously while we discuss it here __________________

Hi everyone -- it's my first time posting on this board.
I'm ridiculously excited for this episode. I just got caught up on the last two episodes and I'm so anxious to see how everything goes. Probably my biggest hope is for Mary/Charles. I loved Mary with Matthew so much, so I wasn't sure how I'd feel about her new suitors. But I really like the sparkly chemistry between MD and JO, especially in E7. The old hate-turns-to-love trope is one of my weaknesses, but Charles doesn't feel like a Matthew clone...he feels like his own person. And I think he's someone Matthew would have respected. I think it's too soon for Mary to get engaged, but I hope we get some kind of sign in this episode that we'll see more of him next season. I'm also a Thomas/Jimmy shipper, so I'm curious to see whether they'll have any interaction in this episode. Jimmy had that strange line in E7 about doing "something stupid" and I wondered if that was supposed to foreshadow something for the finale. I can't wait to come back here and post after it's aired. |

Most people here seem to be suckers for the hate/love trope, so you're in good company. Jimmy might do something stupid like break more jam jars. I can't wait either. __________________

My predictions/wishes for tomorrow's finale:
Bates takes Green for a walk to see the new pigs, and "accidentally" pushes him into the pigpen. Meanwhile, Mrs. Hughes starts a massive pig stampede. RIP Green. Daisy runs off to the farm with Mr. Mason. Finally. Alfred comes back and proposes to Ivy. They move to London. Molesley and Baxter snog, becoming the new "it" couple of downstairs. Together they convince Thomas to drop the bully act. Carson realizes he just lost half his staff, and posts an advert in a local newspaper. Charles Blake declares his undying love...for Thomas. Jimmy realizes that he's jealous and comes to term with his sexuality. Jack Ross calls it quits with Rose. Lord Gillingham uses this moment to pick up the pieces of her broken heart and they elope, a la Lydia and Wickham. Evelyn Napier notices that he's the last man standing and declares his undying love for Mary. "But no pressure. Take your time." he says. Baby George approves. A newly divorced Gregson shows up, excitedly telling Edith about this cool new socialist movement going on in Munich. They move to Germany and become evil. Dr. Clarkson and Isobel continue to have a relationship that doesn't progress. Alan Rickman guest stars as a former acquaintance of the Dowager Countess. It is strongly hinted that he's in love with Cora, and will be a recurring character in series 5. Lord Grantham hangs out with Isis a lot. They drink tea. Mrs. Patmore throws her corset in the pond. Anna helps. Tom hangs out with the New Girl. Sybbie does not approve. Okay, I *think* I covered everyone. Did I miss somebody? __________________

One thing I liked about the pig scene was that it could have just been something fluffy and fun (like "Oh it's so hilarious to see Mary get dirty"), but to me it represented more: Mary and Charles working together as a team to (basically) save Downton from a crisis that no one else was even aware of. It really worked for me. Quote:

Lmao, Alan Rickman. Ahlahvit.
Nothing about Uncle Harold and Grandmama (Martha)? Anyone? I'm rubbish at predictions, serious or otherwise. xD |

I did? Crap. Rosemund...the Dowager's butler...that one farmer guy that owes Robert 50 pounds...I didn't predict Martha or Harold because we haven't seen them yet this series and I didn't think we would until the CS...I am wracking my brain but can't think of anyone else that we've seen for more than five minutes. I could always resurrect old characters--Ethel shows up with her kid, Gwen breaks off her engagement to beg Tom to run away with her, Matthew's ghost comes back and tells Mary to stay a widow the rest of her days, Lavinia's ghost comes back and tells her not to listen to Matthew...
