Well, I still say it was a red herring. I bet he wouldn't turn out to be the killer if the show continued, but I hate that they left us hanging like this. They probably had some explanation for why he was being so suspicious.

I think he was protecting someone, maybe Sutton? She did seem to be neck deep in everything tricky! And he was always very protective of her.
