Sean Berdy was born in Boca Raton, Florida. Sean is the son of Terrie and Scott Berdy and brother to Tyler Berdy.
Most of his film and television appearances feature his use of American Sign Language. Sean has appeared in The Sandlot 2
as Sammy "Fingers" Samuelson, and has also appeared in The Bondage and two films in ASL, The Deaf Family and The Legend of the Mountain Man.
He was in a Sprint Relay commercial, and currently stars as Emmett Bledsoe, son of Melody Bledsoe, played by Marlee Matlin (a deaf actress),
in the ABC Family television series Switched at Birth. He also was nominated for the 2011 Teen Choice Awards under the TV category for breakout star.
e m m e t t b l e d s o e
Emmett is the longtime best friend of Daphne. He is also deaf, but doesn't speak verbally. He has grown up in an all-deaf family,
and has trouble relating to people who hear. He rides a motorcycle and usually drives Daphne to their school. At the Kennishs' benefit party
he takes the place of Toby's band drummer, showing a real talent for the drums. He also loves to photography. He is dating Bay, he started to
like her after they searched for her biological dad and in last episode he spoke with his voice for the first time in many years to her.

Sean has been visiting Washington D.C. and Virginia.

Today, he is returning to L.A. I believe the actors return to work on Season 4, in the next week or so.

Oh good. Glad he's heading back to LA.

D.C. and Virginia are nice places (Amy, I think you can attest to that! ) I need to go back to DC. I haven't been there properly in a while. The last time I was there was visiting Karl's family in Virginia and they drove us through D.C. late at night and I couldn't enjoy it because I had a killer stomachache

Hopefully soon we'll go again.

Let me know if you do! Maybe we could meet at a restaurant near Gallaudet. :-)

Norman Buckley (director) posted this video on YouTube five days ago, and he said it is one of his favorite scenes. I agree. It's beautiful.

Sean Berdy and Marlee Matlin bring so much joy into my life through their performances. I love the way they touch my heart every single time.

From SWITCHED AT BIRTH: "Love Among The Ruins," directed by Norman Buckley (2) - YouTube

Norman Buckley is set to direct filming of the Season 4 premiere this week, but his partner died on the day of the table read last week. I don't know what will happen with the production this week, but my heart aches for him. He is a powerful director. He elicits so much from the actors without even using words, just through the eyes and the body language, through the angles and the pauses. I love the thoughts and ideas he shares through Twitter and Tumblr, too.

I hate that he has suffered this loss.

I have seen a lot of loss recently, for so many people. I am sending thoughts of comfort into the universe, in the hope that it might help. Last year, when my students attended a presentation on the genre of horror, the guest speaker said that immediately after World War II, no one created horror movies or published horror fiction. It hit too close to home.

I am feeling that way about Switched at Birth recently. The show has gone down such a dark path in the last season. I cannot take much more darkness. There is enough sadness in the world today anyway.

I need some light and some joy from my fiction right now.

I saw it on his twitter and tumblr and it is very sad. I am sending my deepest condolences to Norman and his family and his partner's family too.

And that was a great scene. Despite Melody and Emmett's up's and down's, they have such a deep love for each other. Emmett may resent Melody at times, but he has a lot of respect for her.

Hopefully both Norman and SAB will have some happier times ahead. Especially Norman.

It is a great scene. I love every moment Melody and Emmett share on screen. I like Travis, but I enjoy watching Melody and Emmett SO MUCH more.

Hope we see lots of Emmett in Season 4. I connect with him as a character, and I need to see his perspective to feel the depth of the story.

Emmett seemed eager to move out of the house. I wonder if we'll see him getting his own place. Maybe he and Travis together?

Travis and Emmett living together I wouldn't mind seeing. As long as the focus is more on Emmett. To be honest, having more of a focus on Travis instead of Emmett is making me resent Travis a bit.

I feel that way, too. I thought maybe it was just me, though, because I am really fond of Emmett.

Travis is an okay character. I like him, in the same way I like Matthew or Natalie. And Travis and Mary Beth make a cute "side" couple.

Travis and Mary Beth could be adorable going on double dates with Emmett and Bay. It would be so refreshing to see characters having fun together. I am beginning to think no one has fun in Kansas City.

But Travis is no where near as compelling of a character as Emmett, at least not to me.

And it's WEIRD! Sometimes, it almost seems as though Melody likes Travis MORE than she likes Emmett. I don't think that's the way it is supposed to be, but somehow, it is playing like that. It makes me resent Travis.

It reminds me of that old line from The Brady Bunch: "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!"

"Travis, Travis, Travis!" It sometimes feels like Emmett is the forgotten middle child.

Plus, in interviews and social media, the cast and crew ignore Sean Berdy and build up Ryan Lane and Max Adler and Blair Redford, as if they are the greatest.

I am sure they are all wonderful guys. It just gets old, when a fan favorite is consistently ignored, in interviews, in social media, and MOST importantly, in the scripts.

I'm over that.

If there exists some bizarre, behind-the-scenes need to ignore Sean Berdy's Emmett, then why couldn't the writers at least have chosen someone interesting to shift into focus?

I liked Wilke in Seasons 1A and 1B, Alex in Season 1C, and Teo in Season 2A. Those three characters, while not as great as Emmett, are at least interesting.

Tank? Ty? Noah? Travis? I am not interested in any of them.

If Emmett does not pursue a career in film, I could see him taking photos like these one day:

Matt Molloy - Fine Art

I especially like the one called Framing the Moon.

I agree. Travis is okay when he's the side character, but he's not as interesting as Emmett.

It comes off that way too. Like you, I venture the writers aren't trying to make it seem that way, more like Melody sees a bit of a kindred spirit in Travis and feels he needs more guidance than Emmett. Melody could approach the situation as Emmett has two loving albeit not always present parents (Cameron) while Travis has a family that won't step up for him although that is changing from what we saw in the finale.

While Travis's story is true to life for a lot of Deaf people, I just can't connect to him in the same way I connect to Emmett.
