It's kind of a weird grey area of canon. Adam actually tweeted when the graphic novel came out that it was canon. He has said the same regarding deleted scenes released on the DVDs.

But obviously the only fans who know this are the hardcore fans. Most viewers don't purchase the graphic novels or even the DVDs. So it's this secondary canon thing that will probably never be referenced on the show because most of the viewers wouldn't know what they are referencing.

In fact, this isn't even something the actors are made aware of. A fan brought the graphic novel with the Rumbelle story for Emilie to sign at the Florida comic con. At first she thought it was a fan made thing, but when she was told it was official merchandise and it was supposed to be part of the story she was shocked. She had never even seen it before so obviously A&E didn't send it to the actors and tell them to consider it part of their character's story.
