they don't have each other anymore. Jeremy is on this other side (unless he made peace like some supernaturals do) and Elena lost her last family member. It's just blow after blow on this show.

I'd rather he have found his peace that it was over and moved on actually at this point.

Either way, the plan's not going to work, IMO and like I said, I'd rather it be over for the character. On a show that damaged every character he might have been the most damaged one.

kind of both.

most of his story lines ended with him dying or having someone else die or abuse drugs, etc.
