Congrats to Mayim for reaching her NAMI fundraising goal the other day!

I was thinking about this vlog she did:

I understand what she is saying and I think it's a good topic to bring up. But, for me, all her post does is make me feel even more left out.

I can't participate in discussions on pop culture (apart from BBT) and I couldn't care less about that. But I've always felt left out from, for want of a better term, 'geek culture' as well. It's always seemed to me like people who are into Star Wars and video games and comic books and whatever are the 'cool kids' and I've never been into that stuff. I'll admit, until I saw it on Big Bang, I didn't even know D&D was a board game - to me it was just a cartoon that was on when I was a kid:

She's amazing.

And yeah, I think she was saying she learned it, so she can play, but not that fast - whether that's because of hand problems or because she's not so experienced as a harp player, I don't know.

I wonder how hard it is to play the harp.

I always imagined it must be very complicated, but maybe it's not. Or maybe it is and Mayim is just so super amazing and talented that she was able to learn it quickly for those episodes.

(BTW, Mayim, you learned Everybody Hurts for 5.08 The Isolation Permutation.

One of my friends I met at music camp plays the harp. The first summer she wouldn't let anyone else touch it, but then in the years after that she didn't mind and would let us play around on it. I think she might have even tried to teach us something simple.

I know the colors of the strings help tell you which note each one is. I'd imagine that learning is somewhat on par with learning piano, just instead of hitting specific keys, you're plucking the strings.

Was it hard to pluck the strings, do you remember? It looks like it takes a lot of finger strength.
