Whoa. The term 'smut' is based on dirty sex. Up against a wall, bent over a bench in Central Park, in the back seat of an escalade smut. Smut is never borderline rape, that's BDSM. Or if they're trying some role play thing.

Then there's lusty/lovey sex scenes, which is not smut. NC-17? Sure. But not smut.

Sorry, I know you didn't ask for a definition but people kind of confuse them and make run of the mill smut seem trashy.
