^ See, it's moments like this why I laugh whenever Kelly complains in the College years and further that she was never taken seriously by boys... Maybe because she never said anything to suggest she even took HERSELF seriously? Because what Donna says kinda implies that she thinks she's letting Kelly and her social status down by not getting plastic surgery as well.

Hm... But that was their social status, not just Kelly's, and I guess constant embellishment and improving of looks was expected from all the girls

Donna wanted to be Kelly at that point, I would say, and she was sort of her less attractive copy. Kelly got a nose job, many other girls did, so she thought she was supposed to as well - but stayed happy with the other expensive gift from her parents. She is the superficial one in this scene. And Kelly sort of looks Brenda confidentially, because they know about girls with real problems (that's the episode when Bonnie the cheerleader was repeatedly date raped, and Brenda told Kelly about it.)

So yeah, Donna did not want to fail a certain social status, but I do not think it was Kelly's invention or something. They both held themselves to the standard they thought they were supposed to hold to.
