S60 General Episode Discussion #1: The Rewatch Central Command Center

We've been talking about all of us rewatching the series together on and off pretty much since the show ended, but now it looks like it may really come to fruition! lol. But instead of talking about each episode in it's own thread, I thought we'd find it easier to blend the conversations in one thread. We tend to flow from one topic to the next already.

So the plan is to watch the whole series in order, taking it an episode a week. Monday night has been chosen for our viewing night since it was our night to begin with. However, if anyone needs that to be changed just speak up ;)

Mandy's hoping we can start this coming Monday night(the 14th). We just need to make sure that's good with yall. If so, everyone grab your DVDs and Streams and hold on tight! It's bound to be a crazy ride :D

Okay, can I just say that this makes me really very happy? :D

tidbit2008 07-13-2008 08:29 PM

Hee. You can if I can

Wayward Melody 07-13-2008 09:47 PM

And I'm topping it because it's important.

ellie_dakota 07-14-2008 12:18 PM

I love that we're rewatching it. Are we still starting today?

Wayward Melody 07-14-2008 02:36 PM

I think we should, Chris usually comes on midday so I think she'll catch the announcement.

tidbit2008 07-14-2008 04:13 PM

Hm. Okay. So we need to watch it by tonight and then I think we should wait until tomorrow afternoon/night to start the discussion. That will give Chris time to watch it tomorrow morning if she doesn't catch it until late tonight.

I can have it watched by tonight deffo. Yaysies for the rewatch. :pinkie:

Last night's assignment was:

The Pilot, 1x01
The once great sketch comedy show 'Studio 60' is suddenly close to cancellation due not only to its less than stellar on-air product, but another, more unexpected type of action, its Executive Producer's on-air mental meltdown. So enter NBS Chairman of the board Jack Rudolph and a new network president, looking to put her mark on the struggling network, Jordan McDeere. This results in the re-hiring of Danny Tripp and Matt Albie to replace the former Executive Producer and hopefully save the show.

Discuss away! :)

I think all my favorite parts of the pilot are Matt. He rocked it. That he was a "high as a paper kite", his awesome protectiveness, "you're the big shoulders", and the National Anthem. He is just all sorts of love throughout the whole thing.

ellie_dakota 07-15-2008 08:21 PM

 There were a lot of good Matt moments. I like the whole scene at the awards dinner. Especially how he thinks Danny's hugging him for comfort because he has no idea that he won and then when he wants the light on Danny, but there's no one there.

I remember now why I didn't like Jack in the beginning. It had a lot to do with the way he was with Jordan. She on the other hand, just made me laugh. All of her little comments when everyone else is stressed out and worried, and the way she introduced herself to Danny.

My favorite part of the whole thing though is the end. "Cause we live here now."

the coda of the episode always gives me the shivers (good ones, mind you).
"we do live here now". pure love.

And I am one of the few who liked Jack from the start. I don't even know why, but I've always loved him. And I hoped for a story with Jordan.

I really forgot how wonderful The Pilot actual was. Watching, I was reminded of thing I didn’t remember, including how I instantly loved Cal when he made fun of peripheral vision man. And I also love the Matt being on painkillers thing, and the “we live her now” part which is important. But, what really stands out for me is the speech Wes gives in the beginning. He’s really not wrong in a lot of ways. The ‘lobotomization’ that Wes refers to his monologue is kind of on track. I think that a big reason that S60 was cancelled was because it was too smart for general consumption and because “who wants to screw my sister” type shows are easier to produce and cost less money. Quality shows on network television now aren’t as common as they used to be, and thank goodness for cable trying to keep standards somewhat high.

And Jordan’s “Jack there are like seven things funny about this” FTW. I love her snark.

Did anyone else remember clearly that little snit of Harriet’s towards Dillon? I agree he was out of line questioning her like he did but, as Simon and Tom pointed out he was really very drunk and Harriet was down right mean. I didn’t remember that so well. And I love Tom for talking care of the little people, and going after him.

The pilot truly was something else. I'd rewatched it more recently than yall, I think, but it still felt like I'd forgotten some things. Like for instance, I'd forgotten how sane Cal appeared at first :P hee.

Jordan was more uneasy than I remembered her being. She was brilliant, but it was brand new and she was still feeling her way around. Like Mandy, I loved her 7 things funny about this comment. She's been too cute from the get go.

Jack really did appear to be such an asshat in the beginning. He didn't seem as mean, maybe, since we've seen a lot more of Jack's good side since seeing the pilot the first go 'round, but he still came off like a jerk.

Matt and Danny were great as always. The Awards show was perfect. The spot light on the dinner rolls was still perfect. Danny and Jordan and Cabo was great. One of my favorite exchanges is of them, surprise surprise, lol.

Danny: I have no reason to trust you and every reason not to.
Jordan: Why?
Danny: You work in television!

:D

Harriet was probably meaner to Dylan than she had to be. I remember thinking "burn" the first time I saw it. But at the same time I didn't think much of it with how on edge she and everyone else was.

Wayward Melody 07-16-2008 07:28 PM

Speaking of Jack the whole Jack/balls thing was hilarious.
