Jason in Washingtonienne: we would love to see it picked up!

This thread will be all about Jason's new pilot: Washingtonienne.

Taylor and Parker are just beginning to flesh out how to bring "Washingtonienne" to the small screen, but Taylor predicted the final result will be "a controversial character."

"There have been a lot of morally ambiguous male characters finding acceptance on TV, but we haven't seen that with female characters," Taylor said, calling the character Cutler created for her novel emblematic of her generation in many ways.

"She's both hedonistic and very pragmatic," Taylor said. "She does what she wants, and if she can get something from it, terrific. (But) she's not using people brazenly. She just doesn't care what other people think."
From a more recent Washington Post Article - 10/17/08

"We don't want to tell Jessica's story because it's been told," Parker said yesterday. "We want a good show about Washington that's all about ambition and belief in government, what it is to be a young woman in what is traditionally thought to be a man's town."

The HBO series is "extremely loosely" based on the book, said Parker, who optioned the rights for it as her "jumping-off point" for a tale of three 28-year-olds working on the Hill: intern Jackie, her college pal April and workaholic Laura, a conservative, small-town girl. The only character with any hint of Cutler is Jackie, who fails in New York and flees to D.C., landing on April's doorstep. "She's kind of floating, not focused like the others," Parker said. "She doesn't understand the protocol of the city. Her moral compass is a little different."

The pilot shoots in D.C. and Baltimore early next month; if HBO execs like what they see, look for the first 13 episodes to air sometime next year.

THE WASHINGTONIENNE
Pilot
Executive Producers: Sarah Jessica Parker, Alison Benson, Sarah
Condon, Susanna Fogel, Joni Lefkowitz
Director: TBA
Writers: Susanna Fogel & Joni Lefkowitz
Start Date: tentatively October 27, 2008
Locations: Baltimore and Washington DC
STORY LINE: Fiesty, sexy, sometimes abrasive New York P.R. executive JACKIE moves to Washington DC to fulfill her dream of becoming a top political speech writer. A force of nature, Jackie doesn’t play by the rules. She speaks her mind and doesn’t kowtow easily - a rarity in DC. A fish out of water, she’s determined to swim with the sharks, and her bombastic splash onto the national political scene causes widening ripples in the Hill power hierarchy…

At least two locals have landed parts in The Washingtonienne: Pazo and the Baltimore Museum of Art.

The restaurant/lounge and museum will stand in for Washington locations on the HBO pilot, which sounds a whole lot like Sex and a Different City. It will be produced by Sarah Jessica Parker and star Rachel Taylor, Amanda Walsh and Bitsie Tulloch.

"They were looking for something that would be bar/lounge space that was very hip," said Allison Parker-Abromitis, marketing director for the restaurant group that includes Pazo. "They looked in Washington and Baltimore. It's nice that Baltimore sort of won out over D.C. for that ultra-chic, cool space."

Pazo will close for filming one day early next month. Several servers, bartenders and kitchen staff will serve as extras, Executive Chef Michael Costa among them. Pazo food and drink could get cameos, too.

"Their prop guy has not told me which entrees he wants," Parker-Abromitis said. "I sent them our menu. We just launched a bunch of new cocktails, so we're hoping we'll get some cocktails featured."

As for the museum, it will stand in for some government building playing host to a party, said BMA spokeswoman Anne Mannix. Only exterior shots will be used.

"I think it's supposed to be kind of a swanky party, and there will be a long line of people trying to get in," Mannix said.

Mannix said she understood that the swanky party itself will be shot inside the Peabody Library. No one there, or with HBO, returned calls seeking comment.

Washingtonienne to film in Baltimore?

Heard on The Avenue: Some Baltimore neighborhoods — including Hampden — are being scouted for location shots for a new HBO half-hour comedy, “The Washingtonienne,” based on the novel by Jessica Cutler, the former Congressional aide who wrote the porn-blog based on her sex life with D.C. politicos. Sarah Jessica Parker is executive producer and shooting is to begin Oct. 27 here and in Washington.

One of Baltimore’s greatest assets is that it can double for a number of cities, saving a film production budget time and money. On Friday, Parker toured the Maryland Institute College of Art’s main building on Mount Royal Avenue, according to a MICA spokeswoman. The stately, 100-year-old building is similar to many buildings in Washington built during the same time period.

They're filming on N. Charles St in Baltimore today - right past the Charles Center Metro. It's a rainy day so all I saw was the craft cart being set up on my way into work...not sure what kinda scene it is. I agree with the previous poster, it does seem like a lot of work for a 2 min scene.

Sarah in our city

Baltimore, brush your tooth and yell to Uncle Larry to put some pants on. We got company. Sarah Jessica Parker, the producer/actress/fashion icon, best known as Carrie Bradshaw in HBO’s “Sex and the City,” will be in town filming “The Washingtonienne” today through Monday. As executive producer of the half-hour comedy pilot for HBO, she’ll be on set all day, every day guiding the cast and crew.

Parker and “Washingtonienne” players reach Baltimore after breaking Tuesday for Election Day and Wednesday. Shooting began Sunday in D.C.
Quote:
Parker said the expected nine-day shoot will include three days in Washington. She couldn't say whether further episodes would also be filmed in Baltimore. HBO first will have to decide whether to pick up the series, she stressed - a decision with no timetable.

--->Spencer character description: (thanks to Felicity Nerd)
Quote:
[SPENCER] Mid to late twenties/All Ethnicities--The Senior Legislative Assistant for the same U.S. senator Jackie works for, this 28 year old guy is the resident wunderkind of the office, having earned that status through sheer force of personality. He's charming and competitive, always ready with a witticism or historical reference to cut down his verbal sparring partner and assert himself as the **** of the walk. Looks wise, he's the type of guy who would never turn heads in a bar - he looks like he's spent his whole life indoors, at boarding school, an ivy league college, and now the office - but in D.C., where power determines desirability, he's considered a catch. But he's elusive, completely into himself and his career. Initially, Spencer makes the mistake of dismissing Jackie as a loud-mouthed underling and is subsequently floored as she nimbly scales the ladder of the D.C. power structure.

Mandy, I definitely second the choice of thread title! A sentiment I'm sure we'll hear echoed shortly!

But the sentiment of the thread is a good one. *crosses fingers*

Thanks for starting this up Mandy!
It's fantastic the amount of stuff we've already gotten about Jason's character. Although I do find it strange that IMDB doesn't even have Jason listed for its cast.

IMDB is probably just backlogged on the processing. For good and bad, it's not like Wiki where people can just add or remove things without any sort of validation.

ETA: I do know it was submitted, so it's not like we need to check if it has been or why it wasn't...We unfortunately just need to wait for IMDB to get to it.

I'll give IMDB a few days before I get antsy about not having anything up. Well, more like I'll give them until Thanksgiving, since the pilot will be shot by then.

I'm pretty sure it will be up there in the next week or so. I'd love we got some pictures of Jason though, since I think Julie had said there are already pictures of SJP floating around!

Thanks Mandy for starting it up!

And yes, I've seen pics of Rachel and SPJ already online pop up. So hopefully something with Jason won't be too long coming.

No problem guys

Yes, I was also suprised Jason wasn't in the IMDB cast list yet. I'm sure they're just behind though.

I added as much info as I could find in the OP, as well as a banner.

It's great to know that they're filming in Baltimore today. I think that they'llbe around Baltimore and DC on and off for the new few days, though.

I'm sure the location coordinator has it all planned out
