I don't think they knew very much about each other at all, but considering they recognized each other, you'd think that would mean they saw each other form time to time...

^ Ooh, you're right! They did recognize each other, so they must have at least seen each other. I wish TPTB had given us more background on why Shawn and Jack hadn't had contact/a relationship before Jack came to town to go to Pennbrook. I'm thinking up questions that I feel like weren't addressed in their scenes.

Yeah, that fact does change things up a little bit... but it could of course be that it was more convenient for the writers to have them recognize each other

^ Oh, wow, yeah, that's definitely a possibility. I think we might be digging too deep into the details, since like you said, TPTB probably just thought it would be more convenient for the guys to recognize each other right away.

Yeah, it saved a lot of time of these two figuring out who the other way, but still an interesting detail

^ Exactly. I do wish TPTB had give us more of a setup/build-up before Jack officially showed up. For example, what Shawn had mentioned that he had a brother at some point in the series, and then we totally forgot about it until boom, Jack showed up in season five.

Shawn did mention that other half brother once & then we never saw him again!

^ Oh, yeah! I don't get why TPTB mentioned Shawn's sister or showed Shawn's half-brother if they weren't going to develop those relationships. Maybe it's a good thing that TPTB didn't give us a heads-up about Jack until after he showed up. I would have been disappointed if Jack had been just another Hunter sibling that was only around for one episode.

There actually was an explanation for the sister comment, there was meant to be a third friend for Shawn & Cory in that episode, but it just wasn't working with that actor, so all his lines were given to Shawn instead. The writers should have remembered it though, as it did create a huge continuity issue

^ Really? Huh. I wish TPTB hadn't done that. It didn't make sense for Shawn to have a sister for only one episode. I'm glad TPTB decided to bring Jack into Shawn's life. His presence/existence only gave Shawn more layers, mostly the fact that we got to see Shawn as a brother.

Same, even knowing the bts story, I think they should have changed the line slightly, or actually given him a sister

But I'm so glad that they eventually thought up Jack & kept him around for the rest of the show

^ Exactly. Either choice would have been better than the loose end/dead end that Shawn's sister became.

So am I! I just love that we got to see Shawn connect with a brother he knew was out there but who was pretty much a stranger to him.

Me too, imagining them never really getting to know each other & knowing what they would miss out on is so sad

^ It is. I think Shawn and Jack connected at the perfect time. It gave them so much time to get to know each other, and to build a brotherly bond that will (hopefully) last the rest of their lives.
