Rich Jerk (ANTI Miles Hollingsworth) #1 - Because he called Maya a ****.
I am so sick of this guy's stupid smug face and bad attitude. HE CALLED MAYA A **** which makes him the worst person ever in the history of the universe. I hate how Maya, Zoe, and even TRISTAN are falling all over themselves to date this jerk! WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT HIM... I DON'T GET IT.
I'll update this OP later if other people are interested in this thread... let's talk about how Miles Hollingsworth is the worst! |

If this was more anti-Matlingsworth, I'd be on-board.
I don't hate him; but I don't put him on a high pedestal, either. |

This is anti-Miles/the world, so anti-Matlingsworth falls under that category.

I'm not ready for the stuff that'll happen next week when Miles 'saves Maya' from that groper/slapper. Like I said before in the episode topic: if Miles had said 'equal to child porn', I'd kind of agree with him (how old do you put the guy who was in the music video with Maya as...? My mind boggles!); but referring to it as just porn??? Hah. It wasn't porn, but just given the age was the shocking part?? Like the ads with young pre-teen/teen/under 18 models in their underwear? Obviously, Miles was not thinking about that and his jealousy was brought on because the girlfriend in his head was 'cheating on him'. I just - they're not even together yet and he's already trying to put his mitts on her in a way of control. |

And thanks for starting this thread. I was thinking one of these was warranted for the over the top jackass way he acted towards Zoe when she first got to Degrassi after the fall episodes. And yep, the **** comment was just awful. All that brings us to the question asked by Christine in the opening post- Maya, Zoe, even Tristan, all of them are tripping over themselves to date him. What the hell is it about this guy? Yeah, he's rich, but that shouldn't excuse acting like a jackass. __________________

Not to be shallow (as I'm about to say something totally shallow), but MAYBE I could understand Maya and Zoe and Tristan's infatuation with this creep if he were even a TINY bit cute or charismatic. But he's not. He's just so average-looking, with a douchey personality to boot. What's the appeal? His money? I have yet to see him lavish anyone with gifts... |

At some point I suggested that the character Miles reminds me the most of is Peter, and like Peter TPTB is trying to humanize him through the misdeeds of his parents. I guess we were manipulated with Peter, but this seems so blatant that it's hard to take the story seriously.
And it doesn't make me like him any more. Oh and I know I'm not alone in feeling that way. __________________

With Peter though, it was blatantly manipulative because it was shown that Peter was a real ******* who did terrible things unapologetically and didn't care about anybody. With Miles, it feels more like what they did with Craig, started out his characterization with his parents being bad and then worked their way down from there, but with Craig, they had his dad be abusive and they didn't give us a chance to learn who Craig was. I'm learning who Miles is, and i hope his parents beat him, both of them, together, plus the lady. I hate this guy.
I might be a little bit more sympathetic if he had any characterization outside of "HIS DADDY IS MEAN TO HIM BECAUSE HE ACTS OUT BECAUSE HIS DADDY IS MEAN TO HIM", but that's about it. He isn't a character outside of that. Name 3 things about Miles other than his daddy yelled at him in that once scene, you can't because they've done nothing to make Miles a character besides put him beside an established character like Maya. they weren't even this lazy with Ellie, who they introduced as "that girl ashley meets", they at least tried to make her a charracter. on the plus side, they put him in a decent shirt this episode. |

I think there has been speculation of child abuse from one of Eric's first interviews about the character. And hearing them screaming at each other in Summertime was unsettling. I found that interesting at first but now I really hope they don't go in that direction. Since we are speaking of Craig I'll use him as an example; he was afraid of his father. He had multiple locks on his bedroom door. He tried to avoid confrontation with him to the point where he would shut up when speaking about his own mother. He never spoke up to him about how much he was being hurt until after their brief reconciliation and Albert's violent outburst months later in Tears Are Not Enough. Miles' provokes his to the point where he is trying to catch him doing wrong and engages in screaming fights with him. Do you think Craig would be throwing parties and inviting people over while Dad was at work?
I think that TPTB are trying to show that Miles feels emotionally neglected at home and I do feel for him a bit but I don't think the situation needs any kind of intervention. Dad works a lot but we still saw them have a family meal together. He provides for him and bails him out of trouble. He had his best interests in mind (I believe) when he encouraged Miles to go out for the basketball team so he does interact with him. We just didn't see it so we get Miles' spin on it as "Dad says I have to do this." Well, if you were starting fires at your previous school and follow it up with a cutesy excuse like "it started itself" and throwing parties/drinking at this one maybe putting you in an extracurricular sport isn't a bad idea. TPTB might have wanted us to see a kid who is being pushed too hard and dad just doesn't understand him but I don't see that. Heck, I even want to play devil's advocate and suggest that Miles' wanted to use steroids because he wanted an easy way to succeed. He doesn't want to work at anything. Hence all these stupid "schemes." I hate all his "schemes" and "shenanigans." And jumping back to Craig for a moment. He came from money and TPTB didn't overdo it. He had fancy camera equipment to play with, dinner when he came home, and dad drove a nice car but he wasn't throwing parties like Declan or Miles. Dr. Albert Manning? Craig could have had a nice house like that but he seemed upper-middle class. It probably is because of the show's budget but that just irritates me even more. So instead of showing a kid like Craig that maybe an abused kid from another financial situation could relate to as well Degrassi is showing scenes with mansions, pools, and Paris. I think they are just doing it to try to seem like other mainstream shows. It is really alienating and seems dishonest for what the series stands for. __________________

Add me, too. He seems to be slightly mentally unstable. I mean, Maya pointed this out, herself. When he's pissed off at you, he tends to go a little overboard. I mean, he knows that his dad doesn't trust him, so he decides to behave even more wildly, in an effort to lash out against his father. He was angry that Zig also showed an interest in Maya, so he decided to frame Zig, and now, in the next episode, it looks like he's trying to remove Zig from the picture entirely.
I'm not saying that Zig is in the right. I do think that Zig definitely probably isn't helping matters by rubbing his relationship with Maya in Miles' face, but for the most part, Zig hasn't really taken any violent action against Miles. I mean, based on the sneak peek, it's Miles who starts the fight. __________________
