Awesome! That time of the year again! I'm so disappointed I haven't seen ONE film.

I will now scramble to watch No Country for old men, The Assassination of Jesse James, Enchanted & American Gangster (still in theaters), Atonement will start on Dec 20. Hairspray is on DVD, Eastern Promises if it's not out already, it will be soon.

Sweeny Todd starts here on January 17 so there's no way I'll be able to catch it before the GGs.

After I catch up the most that I can, I will post my "predictions."

I'm pretty happy with the nominations this year.

I've seen most of these but some aren't out yet. After I see them, I'll make my picks.

they already screened most of the movies for critics already. so that's why they were nominated. Sweeney started screening for them in November.

My Picks!

Motion Picture Drama
+No Country for Old Men
+Jodie Foster "The Brave One"

I haven't seen any of those movies, but from the way they seem to have done... I think they'll win.

Comedy/Musical

+Sweeney Todd (Heck, yes! I liked Hairspray, but Johnny Depp all the way.)
+Johnny Depp "Sweeney Todd"
+Nikki Blonsky "Hairspray"

Overall
+John Travolta "Hairspray" (Wait, where's Alan Rickman. )
+Tim Burton "Sweeney Todd"
+Ratatouille (Haven't seen it, but either it or Bee Movie should win.)

I read an article claiming that Juno didn't have a chance at the Oscars. The 0-3 in tonights GG made me wonder if its true....

but theres usually clear differences in winners between the gg's and oscars so keep the hope!

Sadly Atonement probably wont win best film at the oscars as thats happened for a few years now with Babel winning GG and Departed winning the oscar and BBM winning gg and Crash winning oscar(ew), Aviator winning GG and Million dollar baby winning oscar etc...

i think Juno has a good chance at nabbing the original screenplay award at the oscars because of the double category thing

Juno will be nominated but winning is another story.

I'm actually quite surprised that Atonement won best film and Schnabel won for directing. I thought that the Coen brothers had it in the bag.

And what's with John Travolta getting a nomination and Paul Dano getting snubbed for the second year in a row???? The kid should get an Oscar nomination... If Travolta gets a nomination for Hairspray there is a really good chance that it the show goes on I will not be watching.

I absolutely agree with both statements. Maybe the GGs were trying to make a statement about No Country for Old Men being thought the clear favorite long, long ago. Like, "See? It's not all written in stone!" Heh.

Paul Dano has become a fine actor. He's been turninng out amazing peformances but award season hasn't been recognizing this. Not cool.

.
I really dont think thats why Atonement won. It probably just appealed to them more on the whole.

I thought it had a great chance because it was the Hollywood Foreign Press whereas i think the Oscars will snub it for awards

Well I havent really been able to see any of the movies this year, mainly cause ive been too busy with school and it always takes a few months for them to reach Iran anyways so im always late for the GGs, though I have to say, yaaaaaaaaaaay for Johnny Depp, I just hope he scores at the Oscars as well.

The director choice was weird, i hadnt heard about him nor his movie!

Still a bit sad that it wasnt broadcasted and had to be shortened to a press conference, I hope the same thing doesnt happen at the academy awards, hopefully the strike will have been resolved by then!
